Tropal Chair
Parametric Grid Meets Functional Design
The Tropol Chair is a study in translating architectural language into domestic furniture. Inspired by the parametric waffle-grid structure of Metropol Seville, this chair explores how complex geometric systems can be simplified into elegant, functional forms.
Design Approach
Rather than mimicking the structure directly, we abstracted the grid logic, creating a modular system of laser-cut birch wood pieces that assemble like a puzzle, supported by a minimalist stainless steel frame.
Inspiration
The Metropol Parasol in Seville is a masterpiece of parametric architecture. Its undulating wooden lattice structure creates a breathtaking interplay of light and shadow, while maintaining structural integrity through mathematical precision.
This project asked: how can we capture the essence of this architectural language, the grid logic, the organic curves, the interplay of solid and void, and translate it into a chair that is both visually striking and deeply functional?
The answer lies in abstraction. Rather than replicating the structure, we extracted its core principle: a modular grid system that can bend, curve, and adapt to human form.
